A conversation between a Software Engineer and another person in Shatabdhi Train ....An interesting and a must read!

Vivek Pradhan was not a happy man. Even the plush comfort of the air-conditioned compartment of the Shatabdhi express could not cool his frayed nerves. He was the Project Manager and still not entitled to air travel. It was not the prestige he sought; he had tried to reason with the admin person, it was the savings in time. As PM, he had so many things to do!!

He opened his case and took out the laptop, determined to put the time to some good use.

"Are you from the software industry sir," the man beside him was staring appreciatively at the laptop. Vivek glanced briefly and mumbled in affirmation, handling the laptop now with exaggerated care and importance as if it were an expensive car.

"You people have brought so much advancement to the country, Sir. Today everything is getting computerized. "

"Thanks," smiled Vivek, turning around to give the man a look. He always found it difficult to resist appreciation. The man was young and stockily built like a sportsman. He looked simple and strangely out of place in that little lap of luxury like a small town boy in a prep school. He probably was a railway sportsman making the most of his free traveling pass.

"You people always amaze me," the man continued, "You sit in an office and write something on a computer and it does so many big things outside."

Vivek smiled deprecatingly. Naive ness demanded reasoning not anger. "It is not as simple as that my friend. It is not just a question of writing a few lines. There is a lot of process that goes behind it."

For a moment, he was tempted to explain the entire Software Development Lifecycle but restrained himself to a single statement. "It is complex, very complex."

"It has to be. No wonder you people are so highly paid," came the reply.

This was not turning out as Vivek had thought. A hint of belligerence crept into his so far affable, persuasive tone. "

Everyone just sees the money. No one sees the amount of hard work we have to put in. Indians have such a narrow concept of hard work. Just because we sit in an air-conditioned office, does not mean our brows do not sweat. You exercise the muscle; we exercise the mind and believe me that is no less taxing."

He could see, he had the man where he wanted, and it was time to drive home the point.

"Let me give you an example. Take this train. The entire railway reservation system is computerized. You can book a train ticket between any two stations from any of the hundreds of computerized booking centers across the country.

Thousands of transactions accessing a single database, at a time concurrently; data integrity, locking, data security. Do you understand the complexity in designing and coding such a system?"

The man was awestruck; quite like a child at a planetarium. This was something big and beyond his imagination.

"You design and code such things."

"I used to," Vivek paused for effect, "but now I am the Project Manager."

"Oh!" sighed the man, as if the storm had passed over,

"So your life is easy now."

This was like the last straw for Vivek. He retorted, "Oh come on, does life ever get easy as you go up the ladder. Responsibility only brings more work.

Design and coding! That is the easier part. Now I do not do it, but I am responsible for it and believe me, that is far more stressful. My job is to get the work done in time and with the highest quality.

To tell you about the pressures, there is the customer at one end, always changing his requirements, the user at the other, wanting something else, and your boss, always expecting you to have finished it yesterday."

Vivek paused in his diatribe, his belligerence fading with self-realization. What he had said, was not merely the outburst of a wronged man, it was the truth. And one need not get angry while defending the truth.

"My friend," he concluded triumphantly, "you don't know what it is to be in the Line of Fire"
.

The man sat back in his chair, his eyes closed as if in realization. When he spoke after sometime, it was with a calm certainty that surprised Vivek.

"I know sir.... I know what it is to be in the Line of Fire......."

He was staring blankly, as if no passenger, no train existed, just a vast expanse of time.

"There were 30 of us when we were ordered to capture Point 4875 in the cover of the night.

The enemy was firing from the top.

There was no knowing where the next bullet was going to come from and for whom.

In the morning when we finally hoisted the tricolour at the top only 4 of us were alive."

"You are a...?"

"I am Subedar Sushant from the 13 J&K Rifles on duty at Peak 4875 in Kargil. They tell me I have completed my term and can opt for a soft assignment.

But, tell me sir, can one give up duty just because it makes life easier.

On the dawn of that capture, one of my colleagues lay injured in the snow, open to enemy fire while we were hiding behind a bunker.

It was my job to go and fetch that soldier to safety. But my captain sahib refused me permission and went ahead himself.

He said that the first pledge he had taken as a Gentleman Cadet was to put the safety and welfare of the nation foremost followed by the safety and welfare of the men he commanded... ....his own personal safety came last, always and every time."

"He was killed as he shielded and brought that injured soldier into the bunker. Every morning thereafter, as we stood guard, I could see him taking all those bullets, which were actually meant for me. I know sir....I know, what it is to be in the Line of Fire."

Vivek looked at him in disbelief not sure of how to respond. Abruptly, he switched off the laptop.

It seemed trivial, even insulting to edit a Word document in the presence of a man for whom valor and duty was a daily part of life; valour and sense of duty which he had so far attributed only to epical heroes.

The train slowed down as it pulled into the station, and Subedar Sushant picked up his bags to alight.

"It was nice meeting you sir."

Vivek fumbled with the handshake.

This hand... had climbed mountains, pressed the trigger, and hoisted the tricolour. Suddenly, as if by impulse, he stood up at attention and his right hand went up in an impromptu salute.

It was the least he felt he could do for the country.

PS:- The incident he narrated during the capture of Peak 4875 is a true-life incident during the Kargil war. Capt. Batra sacrificed his life while trying to save one of the men he commanded, as victory was within sight. For this and various other acts of bravery, he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the nation's highest military award.

Rain plays spoilsport

KOCHI: Breaking a thousand hearts at onego, the one-day international (ODI) cricket match between India and Australia at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday was called off due to a wet outfield after rain played spoilsport.

Calling off the match has raised some questions about the the defects in setting the outfield and the drainage system of the stadium.

Will the rain play spoilsport at Kochi ODI?

Workers mopping up the water from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground on Friday
Workers mopping up the water from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ground on Friday
KOCHI: All eyes are on the sky. Will the rain play spoilsport at the Kochi ODI? With just a day left for the India-Australia match at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, what remains to be seen is whether 2007 would repeat for the ODI.Weather watchers indicate that it’s going to be a repeat of the 2007 ODI between the same teams. The heavy rain on Thursday night and Friday morning has forced both the teams to cancel their practice sessions. Efforts are on to drain out the water collected in some pockets. The outfield is completely wet due to the rain on Thursday night and Friday morning.Workers are trying to manually dry the ground using hundreds of thick sponges along with mops and brushes. More than 50 groundsmen are on a day-long work to dry the ground. The practice pitch has not been affected due to the rain as it’s completely covered. However, practicing at this pitch may not be possible due to its muddy surroundings. It’s learnt that though there was enough jackets available to cover the entire ground, they were not used on Thursday night. The officials with the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) said efforts are on to mop the outfield from Thursday night. The situation in Kochi is the same as in 2007 when India took on Australia on the same ground. That time too
there was heavy rain till the day before the match. Even on the day of the match, many doubted whether the match will be played. There was speculation that the match will be held with less number of overs. But in 2007 the match was played for the entire 50 overs. If it continues to rain, the authorities may have to consider other options including an ODI with less than 50 overs.

Weather watch The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall till Sunday.Kochi can expect up to 2 cm of rainfall on Sunday, IMD officials said. IMD has forecast rain/thundershowers in many places in Kerala until Sunday morning. Northwesterly winds at speeds of 45-55 kmph can be expected along Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts, they said.

Safety net The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor, the venue for the ODI cricket match between India and Australia, has been thoroughly ‘netted’ by Matsyafed to safeguard players. A 3.25 lakh sq ft stretch covering the entire stadium, including the pitch from the spectators’ gallery, has been covered by 1.5 MM UV treated hi density polyethylene (HDPE) fishing nets produced by the Kerala State Cooperative Federation for Fisheries Development in its net factory in Kochi. It took 10 days for the employees to produce the net and to complete the installation at the stadium. The VIP pavilion in the stadium too will have the same protection. The common tendency of throwing bits of paper, used water bottles and cans by the spectators in every stadia will be restricted here. The ultraviolet treatment provided in these nets helps reduce the temperature inside the stadium. The nets can be rolled back after use and can be reused for successive matches for the next three to four years.
Bleed Blue campaign : Team India will debut the new Nike ODI Kit against the Aussies on Sunday. The blue jersey in the ODI kit is made entirely from recycled polyester. Nike has been distributing free T-shirts resembling the Indian jerseys to all those who purchase tickets for the ODI. The authorities have requested all spectators of the match to come in the blue T-shirts. The attempt is to create a world record where the entire gallery will be dressed in one colour, said the officials.Nike has launched a Bleed Blue campaign, too. “The Bleed Blue campaign has got the attention of cricket fans. So far about 2.5 million hand imprints have been made as part of the campaign of which 5,000 hand imprints are from the city. The facebook page on the campaign is also getting a good response. So far about 2.1 lakh people are following us,” said Ravi Kallayil, business director-cricket, Nike India.

DanceLove – part2

a story-by Tracy Austin, s7 cs – b
(if u missed out on the first part go to click here)
Next day in class was a day she never dreamt of seeing during her college days. Her classmates were full of flattering. They were all chit-chatting about last evening’s performance. They gave her bouquets, chocolates, hugs n kisses. She was no longer invisible. Each moment she spend in her class, listening to all flattering, she was yearning  more n more to meet this boy. She got to know from her friends that was the same boy who was the lead dancer in the hip-hop dance troupe. But no one had seen him dance a duet like that before. He himself had earned a huge fan list. It was interval, and she wanted to meet him. As she was walking down the corridor, she felt like a star, with people noticing her, and congratulating her for the splendid dance. There were faces with big smiles, thumbs-ups.  Her eyes suddenly locked at this very sparkling eyes at the corner of the corridor. He was there looking on her, with a warm smile on his face. She walked right up to him. “ Feeling the days ‘ beautiful, don’t you??”, his voice was very pleasant and caring.” You were amazing on the dance floor”, he said. “ You too. I have never seen somebody dance like that before. U were splendid, perfect and I liked your dancing style. I don’t know, I never was in a mood to dance, but what made me dance, I’m still in doubt. When dancing with you I felt I was no longer that college girl I had always been. Wanted to say Thanks for letting me come up with myself. This was something I couldn’t do for these 2 years.”, she said. He narrowed his eyes on her. “But you had never been this college girl before. There was always this thing about your dance that made people around you fill with happiness. I was only trying to get it from you. And ‘thanx’?? U better say that to yourself. Becoz for what you are now, you are responsible”, he said sofly.  She was perplexed. “ Do you know me?? Have we met before??”,she asked apprehensively.      “ Well, we haven’t actually met, but it happened that we studied in the same school where you were known as the ‘Dance girl’. I had always admired your way of dancing, it felt like a delicate yet strong pleasant thing I had ever encountered”. She was surprised, she started looking at him deeply before she muttered, “ I don’t rememeber you in school”. He smiled, “ Well , you would remember if I told you what others called me then”. She thought for a while, “ Well, is it Robinjatter, or StuntKing?? Hmm.. I can’t think about any other name”. He leaned close, “ Or perhaps the ‘Dance Loony’?”. She was taken aback. His voice was ringing in her ears. She couldn’t believe what she heard.”Dancing Loony? Oh that same Dancing Loony who often tripped with every dance step he made?”. He laughed,”Yes , the same one”. She was dazed, she looked stunned and she muttered,” Can’t believe it you. U changed”.
“As did you”, he said calmly,” I had always wished you sizzle around the way you did in school. I adored the way you danced yourself out. But after getting into college, I saw little of that girl, and more of a ‘working woman’ personality. I had tough times in school, Jenna. Real tough times. Being a sole child of a poor family, I had to struggle my way to stay in             school. There was no colorful side to my life then. I would sit alone in the class, no friends, no one to care, buried in my books. But , then I saw you dancing on our Arts day. That was a special treat I had ever seen. I always wondered why I couldn’t be happy as the guys around. I didn’ know the true meaning of happiness. Its been long that I tasted it. But then I saw true happiness in you… in your dance. U just poured out your happiness on the people watching you, through ur moves. Every small step u made, contained a pack of happy moments that was spread across. I felt myself smiling as I saw you dance. Later I realized I was happy. But then, you were, one star- girl in school. People called you the “Dance girl’.. But u touched my heart way too deep that.. you were the’ Dream girl” for me.”. She blinked her eyes, she couldn’t believe the words coming out of him.
He continued, “Every little sessions you practiced, I used to watch it with awe. It gave me a sense of pride and peace. A thrust to move forward in life. A calm feeling. I wanted to match with you, Jenna …, wanted to befriend you, but I was scared. I was one with no friends. I felt myself as an uninteresting fellow. I wanted to make myself special before I could meet you. I took all chance to dance. But then I was not least a good dancer. I didn’ know how you did it, but I tried keeping my steps high though slowly people started to laugh at me. I tried day in and day out dancing with stuff, but really couldn’ dance the way you did. Then one day, I saw you and your friends heading to the Stone Park. I listened to you talking. U told about the true honest feelings to come out, to show others, to make people a get a taste of what you are doing, what you are enjoying. Its then that I realized what your friends didn’ realize. The true meaning of you being send here to this world. Its to spread happiness around, to enjoy life. That evening I went home, I felt a little change in the way I danced. It wasn’t a whole perfect Michael Jackson moves, but then I could dance pleasantly. I felt a new confidence, understanding others, my parents – their visions about my future, I wanted to be like you, to spread happiness around. I noticed changes in every little things I did. I was happy, and was making others happy.
I started making lots of friends – started to make them happy honestly. I had a whole new attitude towards dancing. It was no longer to impress you, or to match your skills or to meet you. But to get my feelings through to you,  my honest feeling s to you. I was glad I was a changed man. But then, in college I saw you a changed girl. You no longer been that vibrant girl I had known. You stopped mingling much with people, confining yourself to books n classes. I wanted to see that smile on you back again, to see you enjoying each n every bit of it. Because what I’m now, its because of you – of what you believed in. And I didn’ want you to lose hope  in what you believed in. I tried getting you back on tracks. I arranged a reunion party with friends so we could organize your dance show, so you would find back your roots. But u didn’ arrive. We waited for you till dusk as school was always your favorite spot, we hoped you would turn up at the last minute. We all returned home late that day, that was a day we all had meant for you. After two years persuasion, we managed to convince the college management for a mega arts fest. Hoping seeing this, you would come back and dance your way out on stage. So we could get a chance to see you smile once again. But you didn’ participate. I danced, just to show you the message that you once gave me unknowingly.
Then there was this prom night coming. You managed to spot yourself on the dance floor, but I saw you hesitate. U dance, when you are happy, Jenna. But I wanted you to be happy, that’s why I made you dance once more. I saw that smile spreading on your face as you scaled the steps of dancing with me last evening. I saw your eyes sparkle, that made me happy. You didn’t’ realize but you went beyond the limitations inducing a magical moment, you were pouring the skill you had in full strength that was contained in you untouched for 2 years. I saw you happy, I saw this vibrant energy in you again. All what you did last evening, was a honest flow of your feelings. This is what I wanted to have in you again. Be like this forever, Jenna. Every time you are happy, I realize how lucky I am, since it was this that made me what I am. There are people looking out for you. U don’ see it in this busy schedule. Whatever your goal is, everyone has a right to be happy, so is you”.  She looked to his side and saw her friends beside him. They were all smiling at her. He said,”And I can’t see you sad anymore, because…. ‘ I love you’“. She looked up to his face, now with tears in her eyes, and said with her voice cracking “ Somebody really did a big mistake naming you the ‘Dance Loony’. I wouldn’t have realized how wrong I was , if I hadn’t met you. Thanx for looking out for me”. Saying this she hugged him. “ I’m happy and thankful to God to have you in my life”.

Stay happy, make others happy , and never undermine ordinary people around you, they might not have showed their strong side to you. Its just a difference of one step of self–realisation that holds you back from others.

Dance love - a story part 1

There was this girl for whom dance was a passion. She dances all day long, every day. This was the only thing that thrills her. Her family and friends wait to get the happiness on her face as she sizzles down the dance floor. Right from her school days, she was best known as the Dance girl, in place of Dream girl for the guys. She comes to her spirits, and jams her way through the dance. There were perhaps admirers for her, a huge trail of fans… There were lots of friends, who wanted to get this spark of dance from her to get into a party mood. She always hinted she looked for that perfect dance partner that could bring her steps to completion. That would be the perfect match maker in her life as well.  There was Billy, who often get to be her dance partner in school performances.. He danced well, but there wasn’t that thing in him, that could make her dance really special. Though he was the best dancer out of the lot. Jo tried to dance to impress her, but poor guy, the more he tried, less sensuous his steps become and give a reason for people to laugh. He was known as the “dance loony’ – who’s an embarrassment to dance. But lot more he admired her way of dancing. Jenna felt sorry for him. Mike was a bully, but he danced well on the floor. He never got chances to make it up the stage, as his attitude stinks for the organizers.  Jenna liked his dancing style, as she said he relishes when he dances. That’s the part that makes a dancer -  and he has got it. That was the school days – lot more fun, lot more fans, and lot more reasons to laugh. Whenever there was   spare time , she talked about dance and the art of dancing to her friends – Joanna n Maureen, near the stone park, their usual hangouts during free hours. They listened to her becoz it created a pleasant n jolly mood around her as she said it, and they get a taste of it, they could use them in their performances as well. Dance is something that has to come from within , she used to say– u have to feel the happiness in you when u dance. This gives a sense of confidence that’s strong enough to wade away any belittle signs. U dance to let your feelings out, and when the feelings are true, your dance is true, your art is honest. It’s this honest art that pass on the message to others. Its then that they enjoy and your dance becomes their visual treat. When they see you enjoying your art, they enjoy seeing your art. That’s what she believed.
Then came college days. She moved to a different place, a very strange place for her to be – where there were no fun, no art – no dance. It was heart-breaking as no one supported her. People doubted her future in dance, as a profession. She believed she was less matured to take a decision about her future, and started to pursue a cemented job course. Little did she know, this meant not discovering more of her art. The strict schedule drained her from her creative ideas. She slowly started inclining to the nerdy side, less concerned of her art. She gradually started losing confidence in her. Her mind was set for a goal on, to do her studies well, and get placed in a highly professional company. After two years dragging her days in college, she lost all interest in herself. She even skipped the reunion party kept in her school. She didn’ want her friends to see the opposite of what they expected in her to be.All her friends arrived late after the party. People were bugging her ,   calling her to come. But she wouldn’ come. She believed she’s no longer that spirited girl, the happiness – sprinkling girl of the school days. People asked her to change her attitude and see world with a different eye. She was doing this for the past two years, suppressing the desires that was already discouraged by her fellow classmates n friends in the campus.
She stopped believing in herself. She wanted help – someone to understand her honestly. She was scared to open her mouth as everyone would point fingers at her   attitude again. Her third year in college saw something different. There was this one mega- show put to showcase your talent. But she was so scared to think about her participation. She no longer had that old confidence. She believed she’s only trained to be an entrepreneur. The show went off. There were many rocking artitists who showcased their talents on stage. The hip-hop dances were good. The lead dancer in the troupe was amazing. She felt his feet moved the perfect way. All eyes were on him as he gave his power-pact performance. There were beautiful female dancers as well. They sizzled their way sweetly n sensuously on the stage, reminding her of her old days. She doubted if she could match steps with them.
One day she was taken to a party with friends. There were everybody happy, people started pouring onto the floors for some jives. She felt good and odd as she had not been doing this for a long time. She came to the floor, all her friends were enjoying their time on the floor, she tried to shake a leg, but alas!! That special feeling had gone out of her. She was not able to dance the way she had danced before. She tried again n again, she tried to laugh out loud- to be happy, and to dance. But no, it wouldn’t come. She was invisible, people were doing much of their things. The lights were dim on the floor. There were light flashes, brightening up the spirits of people there. Then, there was this turn of a duet dancing, friends around her were busy searching for some dance partners. There were guys coming from all corners to ask her friends out for the dance. She moved stealthily, she believed she really was invisible. She moved towards her table, then suddenly she felt  her arm pulled back softly from behind. She turned around. There was this boy standing, his grip on her hand was so warm. “ May I have the honor to dance with you?” , he asked her
She was dazed by the lights, and shocked by this unexpected action, that she couldn’t’ speak a word. He led her to the dance floor. He held his arm softly on her waist, and took her other hand – the music started, and he moved her slowly across the dance floor in the most elegant dance move she had ever experienced. She was trying to look into his  eyes, the flash lights showed his perfectly chiselled features. There was this very pleasant feeling seeping into her as they together advanced each dance step. He made a spin, a bow, a dip and elegant moves in tune with the divine rhythm. She felt she was in a trance, her limbs taking her in the most beautiful walk she had ever had. She took on the rhythm and they began dancing their way together. She couldn’t  believe she was dancing this way, which she believed she had long forgotten. She felt the people dancing around them noticing them. The others slowly ceased their moves, and started enjoying this special couple dance. People started clapping and cheering around. She felt warmth so comfortable and a feeling so strong in his arms that made her rouse her passion for dance. They made so slick, beautiful moves together, that showed the perfectionism and passions of the dancers on the floor. They danced together for hours, not getting tired , swaying all the way giving visual treat to the onlookers. The music ceased, and she was posed in an elegant dip by him. There was this moment of silence, a sparkle in his eyes she noticed, then the silence broke. There was this umpteen clapping and cheers that she hadn’t got in her time in school even.  People came forward and embraced the couple who gave a splendid performance together. Friends came to her and pepped they haven’t imagined her to dance this way, that it was so beautiful. Others came and said “ they never seen such a beautiful dance happening  before their eyes”. She was dazed, she was happy, she said many ‘thank-you’s and got tired of the flatterings rushing to her from all corners. Then she stopped. She didn’ feel that warm grip on her anymore. She looked around. The boy had gone. She was surrounded by her many fans.

Mpower Motivation Mail

We are our own best friend and probably our own worst enemy. Our Belief system undoubtedly is the key to unlock our potential.
How To Challenge Your Belief
Treat your beliefs critically and search for contradictory evidence.
By challenging your current beliefs about what is possible you will be able to release the brakes on some of the obstacles that have held you back from doing more, being more, and having more.

Take a Good Look at Your Beliefs
People rarely think about where their beliefs have come from. Over time, like a piece of human flypaper, you have picked up beliefs about yourself and your world and they have stuck to you throughout your life. Regardless of where they have come from, your beliefs drive everything you do. It is absolutely critical to your success in achieving your goals that you understand that getting what you want in life depends on what you believe about the possibility of achieving it. Whether it's learning how to use a computer or how to swim, it's never too late.
Holding on to Your Beliefs
Beliefs, theories, and opinions are what you use to understand and define the world around you. They make it possible to take things for granted, but can easily become prejudices that remain fixed despite contradictory evidence.
In order to hold on to your limiting beliefs you will have filtered everything by one of three methods – deletion, distortion, or generalization – so that you can maintain your view of the world, the people in your life, and what is right and wrong.
·   Deletion – When someone you usually see in a positive light does or says something that you regard as negative, you will probably delete this negative event from your memory because it doesn't conform to your opinion of that person, or your belief about how she usually interacts with others. You may not even pick up the negative aspect because you automatically deleted the event as it occurred. It is as if the negative event never happened.
·   Distortion – This occurs when you distort information that does not fit with your view of a person or situation. Your mind

accepts the pieces of the story that match your view of a person or event and changes those that don't.
·   Generalization – This is a way of discounting or invalidating information that does not fit. When a normally positive person does something negative, you can still maintain your belief that she is positive by dismissing her action on the grounds that it isn't her usual way of behaving.
Tip
Remember that the limiting beliefs that you have about yourself are just as harmful as those you have about other people.

halloween offer...

THE PEARLY GATES: Heavenly Enterprises (Stock symbol: GAWD), the only known business concern headed by a superhuman entity, has unveiled a new line of celestial fashion accessories aimed at recruiting new believers. The highlight of the release is the halo, a floating disc of radiant light designed to be worn over the head, previously available only to shareholders, posthumously.

Tentatively priced at $99.95, this marvel of divine engineering is surprisingly inexpensive. The halo uses a novel suspension technique to hold it in place over a customer's head. A microchip embedded in the device constantly recalculates the co-ordinates of the wearer's skull and uses a motor to adjust the exact position of the halo accordingly.

Heavenly Enterprises has, however, refused to reveal the source of the light within the halo, labelling it a trade secret. It did admit that the device requires neither external power nor batteries and would remain luminous for 'all eternity'. The halo also comes with an intelligent illumination adjustor that automatically adapts to the surroundings, turning the brightness down to minimum if it senses people trying to sleep.

St. Peter, the Managing Director of H.E. stated that the company hoped to attract new followers with its latest release. He spoke to the Loony Bean:

"People don't swallow that turn-the-other-cheek nonsense any more. What they really want is something they can touch, feel and show off. They need something that makes them feel important. Sure, teaching folk about love and flavourless salt worked - like a thousand years ago. People have access to the internet now, and they're up to their eyebrows in philosophy.

"We used to be the intellectuals a millennium ago. These days, [if you] try to tell people about Creation, they'll throw string theory and quantum mechanics at you. No, our unofficial company policy is now 'give 'em goodies to shut 'em up' "

The halo is available in five glorious colours: Original Orange, Celestial Cyan, Graceful Green, Valorous Violet and of course, Popular Pink. Heavenly Enterprises is also planning to offer downloadable designer themes once the market really explodes. Other products in the accessory line expected to be popular include attachable angel wings and gold-plated harps. H.E. has not revealed whether the wings will actually grant the wearer the power of flight or whether they're merely decorational.

Heavenly Enterprises has come under fire from the All Saints' Union for offering what the latter called 'symbols of morality and divinity' for sale. The union staged an almost ridiculously non-violent protest outside the Pearly Gates earlier today.

"We had to sacrifice our lives and everything we held dear for the privilege of wearing one of these", said a spokesperson for the group, pointing at his own beaming halo. "Anyone can get one for a measly hundred dollars now. Have you ever gone hungry for a week so that the pigeons outside your home might have food? I didn't think so. That's the kind of selfless deed that Simon 'The Rock' Peter wouldn't understand."

With over one billion customers, Heavenly Enterprises is the world's largest distributor of wisdom and philiosophy. Founded over two thousand years ago, it had origins as humble as most of the world's leading corporations today - unable to afford an office, its ambitious entrepreneurs first set up headquarters in a carpenter's workshop. Though H.E. enjoyed a noteworthy customer base in its first thirty years, the breakthrough that elevated it to the big league came after a hostile takeover by a rival company based in Jerusalem. Its meteoric rise in popularity since then has often been compared to that of Google (which had an equally unimpressive beginning) in more recent years.

H.E. also seems to have run into legal trouble with the name of their product. Microsoft Corporation, makers of the immensely popular first-person shooter, Halo, has threatened to sue if H.E. launches its device under the same name. Several alternate labels have been suggested, 'Orbi-Glow' the most popular so far. Heavenly Enterprises cannot afford a lawsuit of this scale due to a complete non-availability of lawyers to defend their case.

SHE, MY DREAM

SHE, MY DREAM

She is my dream. But she never ever came to my dreams. That was she. Confused? It began years ago. But it was not the first time I saw her. Really I must have seen her before. When I first saw her I was not all interested to make a friendship with her just because I was there for some other reasons and I had to achieve my target. Occasionally my friends will say about her. But I never commented on it though I was curious on her. The target reminds my mind not to deviate in other matters. Months passed. Finally I achieved my target and aimed for a new target at a place with a different environment. I almost have forgotten her by the time.

The time went just like a tornado sweeping everything from the scenes. Again she came to my life. New hopes sprouted with a mild breeze cooling my mind. After several months I first met her just to now she was blind to me earlier when I first saw her a year ago. To my surprise she said she could see everything from then.
After that every now and then whenever I saw her she shared a few smiling moments, of course words too. Both quenched my dried out mind. Often this turned my friends envious on me. So they poked me whenever they had a chance. However I escaped from them, otherwise this story may turned upside down. She is beautiful in earthly means; divinely I dunno but hopes so; left it to the Almighty. Why I chose her? What made my mind to follow her? The Quest! Is it love? Never! Just liking, the step to love. She is very chatty, only I knew about it so late. I often text her, sometimes mail will do. But I never showed my love, sorry liking to her by any means. Why I didn’t? There isn’t a need now for that. But I will propose her once I stand with my own assets, legs you may call. Will she accept my proposal? I dunno, but I’m so optimistic that she will become mine.
I know she too will read this once I published. Surprisingly no one who read this identifies who she is, even she doesn’t! To their knowledge I left it to everyone for their wide and wild guessing!

MBA Vs MTech Vs MS - what to do/opt after BTech ?

What’s preferable for Btech students ?
A question that had much confused me to the core in the beginning was about which is preferable to BTech students,MBA or MTech or ahem,MS(as most prefer).I know that almost all the students doing or has completed Btech has thought of this question atleast once during their lifetime..still as i dont expect to get placed after completing my Btech  due to ahem u know, this question was of utmost importance to me.Also this global recession thing has ensured one thing..that the Btech students who are passing out these 2-3 years dont get a permanent job..it will take quite a lot of skill and a lot of luck to hang on to ur job..anyway my top priority now is to pass all papers in BTech and think of other options later…but as i see many who are confused what to do after their engg.,i thought this is a subject of utmost importance and someone has to start a discussion so i thought i would..this is just an attempt for that..do post ur opinions on the topic as comments
i found a lot of opinions..well narrowing it all down it comes to our personal opinion but in this age we have to take advice of the people who have experienced this. Many people at this point ask a question:”If you are going to do an MBA after Btech why did you do Btech in the first place…why did u वर्क so hard for these 4 years to get your BTech if you are trying to go from the technological field.!!”(worked hard :O ??)..anyway this question is typically another example of people being ignorant..well yes its the students personal decision which matters anyway..theres a saying “survival of the fittest” it becomes relevant in todays nightmarish conditions..rest u guess.
Earn money and live fast- MBA
Earn respect and live peacefully- MTECH
this is a definition i found in the net.well its the truth..people who do MTech are more into the teaching field..though one can take an MBA even after completing MTech..another post which i found in the net lays out many reasons why MTech has lost its value and why MS is so far better..well i donno..i think MTech at IITs or IISc is certainly better..a person was telling me last day that she wont study in India if she dont get into IISc or an IIT..our IITs are best in the world in undergraduate disciplines only ie in BTech, and not the numero uno in graduate disciplines..and of course as many might know,a degree from IISc,bangalore is better than IITs.still i have heard that each IIT is famous for some streams, and it would be best if you opt for that.i dono details..i never tried for IITs..it snt somthng u can achieve in a day rite..and m too lazy..also if one is interstd in working, then why mtech?i mean as far as i hav heard btech students are called for the same job with mtech ns..wel we can enjoy 2 more yrs college with mtech thats true..anyway comin bak to the subject,:evn though this is the case, people point out that MS is certainly much better..i mean all these students are writing GATE and only the best get into IISc,the dream college and secondly to the IITs..well if MS was better why did these lakhs of students studied hard for GATE and got in….still with the availablity of so much bank loans..students tend to go abroad in flocks..the competition is much lesser abroad and the bankloans and scholarships promote students to go out of the country.and what is AMIE and MIE ..is MIE a substitute for MTech..the only extrathing i see is that we get regular magazines at my home due to that :D
now talkin about MBAs.A Btech from an IIT with an MBA from an IIM is the dream combination as widely approved.and it neednt be an BTech from an IIT too…any students passing out from IIMs can get upto 15-20 lakhs per month..well itsnot just about money..also one take an MBA after MTech too..but it is the getting into top Bschools that matter…CAT conducted by the IIMs(Indian Institute of Management s)is considered as the world’s toughest exam even though the syllabus is just the portions upto standard 10 in school..yes,u heard it rite !!believe your eyes…portion upto 10th only :)also in numbers, out of 300,000 students who take this exam, only the top 1 or 2 % students(meaning they have to come into top 3000-6000 and also cleared cutoff in all the 3 sections of the aptitude test namely quant, verbal & DI) are selected to take part in GD s at each IIMs..then the students who passed GD is led to the interview after that…Finally only about 1000-2000 students are selected to the IIMs..IIM admission process renowned as the three layer elimination process is many a person’s nightmare.and i think it made it to some guiness record or somthng as the worlds toughest admission process or rejection ratio somthng..anyway,the reward can be huge…IIMs are rated as the toughest Bschools in the world to get into and ofcourse the students who made it are safe..with a salary package upto Rs 2 crore p.a(u have got to trust ur eyes again, lol),a PGDM (equiv to an MBA) from an IIM is many a person’s dream..
also there are many who write the civil service exams or the IES(Indian engineering services),the IRS etcand other examinations..i know that many, now are preparing for the JTO exam as i write this piece..many opt to work in ece or software after getting a Btech..and many has advised me to work for some years and go take an MBA cos the best Bschools in the world look for work experience..

Control your emotions!!!!

A man was afraid of his shadow and he was afraid of it every day and since he wanted to get away from it, this particular day he ran as fast as he could. The shadow kept up with him. He went faster but the more he increased his speed, the faster the shadow went, keeping up with him. When he stopped, the shadow was there. It stayed right by his side. Finally, he came to the conclusion that he hadn’t been running fast enough so he went all out this time but, unfortunately for him, it was too much for his body and he dropped dead of a heart attack.

He did not realize that if he had stood in one spot long enough, the shadow would have disappeared because of the sun – it would be underneath him when the sun was directly overhead.

What you realize here is he was trying to run away from his own emotion and was not in control of his emotions. Hence he was unable to think. Even in times of disparity, you need to be stronger, keep yourself together and not give into the situation. Else the situation will be in control and not you. You have to tell yourself that you are the one in control, which you will start believing soon, and eventually you will be in control of your emotions and in turn of the situation in hand.

How to Deal With Your First Big Breakup

Hey frnds this is actually nt ma article but my frnds & abt about coping with a breakup in college. I thought it was a great idea, especially because I still remember how much my own first breakup hurt

This is nt my personal advice (basically, this is what I tell my closest friends) about what helped me get through, so take it with a grain of salt and feel free to add your own thoughts & ideas in the comments.

Take Some Time Off.

Making the “just friends” thing work without taking a break from each other in between can be painful-and it can really mess with your head. After my first boyfriend and I broke up, we kept in touch by email for quite a while-and both of us kept feeling like maybe we would get back together. We never did, and it really prolonged the pain of the breakup to keep talking and hoping. Also-take off your promise ring or whatever little memento you keep on you all the time, and give back the box of his or her stuff you’ve got scattered around your place.

My Tip: Even if you plan to be friends, let them know you’re going to take some time-a GOOD amount of time, not just a couple days-in which you don’t interact with each other. If you have to, ignore your ex’s calls, block him or her from your IM, and filter his or her emails to go to your spam inbox-and don’t feel guilty about it. You need this time to let yourself start healing. (P.S. The “just friends” thing is REALLY hard.)

Keep Your Brain Busy.

Why is it that just when you’re feeling okay the most random thing-a paperclip, the smell of a banana muffin, or commercial-suddenly reminds you of your ex? Well, if you were together (or on the phone/IMing/emailing with each other) day in, day out, for months or years, your brain has naturally formed a lot of ties with him or her. And every time you remember that you can’t share the best joke or a story about your mom with your ex, it feels like you got sucker punched.

My Tip: To keep your mind from wandering back to painful places, try to keep as busy as possible. Go out with friends, really dive in to your school work, and/or take on more hours at your job. Join a club. Meet new people. Explore your college town! There are still going to be things that trigger that memory switch, but the distraction will help you in the long run.

Vent, but Don’t Wallow.

The first few days are really hard. You probably want to just crawl under the covers and mope. Feeling like that is okay, but wallowing in that feeling-basically sitting around feeling sorry for yourself-isn’t going to help. Also, if all you talk to your friends (or dates) about is your ex boyfriend or girlfriend, you might notice that people don’t want to hang around you as much.

My Tip: Check in with friends about how you’re feeling-especially if you’re feeling particularly depressed-and let them help you out of it, but don’t let yourself go off on a rant or throw a pity party every time your BFF is around. If you’re having a lot of trouble coping, consider talking to a counselor about it. Most colleges offer free psychological services to their students, from a psychologist to support groups, and they can be really helpful (and more anonymous, which often makes things more comfortable).

Wait it Out (and Be Open-minded)

Breakups are hard-there’s just no way around that-and the hardest part is that it takes a while to feel better. Wait it out, and be open to new experiences. Go on dates, hang out with friends, and try new things (in a healthy way). Don’t sit around hoping you’ll get a phone call or an IM from your ex-after a while you really will start to feel better.
